Statement from the Editorial Board of Historical Materialism

Dear Comrades,

The Editorial Board is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of our internal policies and procedures. Recent months have highlighted, once again, the need to strengthen, audit, and improve our organisational structure to ensure that Historical Materialism consistently lives up to its values.

We remain firmly committed to maintaining Historical Materialism as a comradely space with zero tolerance for all forms of sexism, racism, violence, and abuse.

As a small and voluntarily run organisation we have over the years tried to develop guidelines and put procedures in place to help us put these values into practice. Historical Materialism is not just a publication; it is also a political project committed to Marxism and its emancipatory values. As such, there is significant work ahead of us.

We particularly welcome and highly value critical feedback and suggestions for improvement of our guidelines regarding conferences, working groups and networks. Among other ways of doing this, during this year’s London conference at SOAS 7-11 November 2024, we will provide a dedicated space for discussing these issues.

In solidarity,

The Editorial Board of Historical Materialism. Research in Critical Marxist Theory
